Welcome! Glad to have you here.

Hi! I am Ruth Michalsen (nee Hong) of Ruth Hong Art. I am a mixed media artist. My work is inspired by nature, mental health and self-compassion.

As we all experience life with varying degrees of challenges, one of the most challenging times for me was receiving the diagnosis of complex PTSD, shortly after my children were born. Through completing and trying multiple modalities of therapy, I rediscovered joy through the practice of coloring while I was inpatient. Now, I manage my responses to difficult emotions and triggers on a moment-to-moment basis. Coloring encourages me to appreciate the present.

My aspiration is to help trauma survivors cultivate self-compassion for themselves and connect them to others on the same healing journey. Practice coloring with me and let me show you how mindfulness and nonjudgment can help reveal the value you already have.

Ask yourself:

  • Do you find it difficult to manage your emotions?
  • Do you second guess your worth?
  • Have you tried all the things: cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), somatic expressive therapy, trauma therapy, EMDR, ketamine therapy, etc., and finding that your treatment has plateaued?
  • Are you looking for a skill to help you practice mindfulness and slowing down?

Here's how I can help and how you'll benefit:

  • I can help you develop more than just a habit, but an active practice of coloring.
  • I will guide you in developing an approach to coloring with non-judgment, calm and self-kindness.
  • You will benefit from the meditative attributes of coloring.
  • You will learn and discover mark-making that resonates with you.
  • You'll become part of a community of like-minded individuals looking to heal and grow.
